Clarkson's digital images of Vietnam were received by editor and author, Veita Jo Hampton, Shelbyville, TN, in January, 2006. Hampton selected a representative group of images and, drawing from daily e-mail journals and notebooks preserved by Clarkson, began the poetry composition in an almost day-to-day collaboration with the photographer. The current project includes 30 pages of Hampton's poetry and text written to more than 125 of Clarkson's color photographs.
Former professor of photojournalism, documentary photography and media writing, Hampton owns a business, Bluestocking Editorial Services. In 2006, Bluestocking Press published Light Travels, a black & white and color photo collection of her poems and photographs. The chapbook was distributed widely throughout the United States. Hampton edited or co-authored five nationally distributed photojournalism books since 1980. She serves several community organizations including the Executive Board of the Fly Cultural Arts Center, Bedford County Arts Council in Shelbyville, TN.
